What did people think of it? I don't really understand all the hype. It was alright I guess.

It was essentially a decent two hour episode of "Black Mirror." I don't get all commotion about it. It was an interesting watch, mostly because of the cast, but it faded from thought almost immediately for me.

Three questions:

1) Why did Mallorie plan to have one of the kids look at the rapids when this wouldn’t have instantly resulted in the kid killing himself/herself?

2) Where do they get food from during the five year period of hiding?

3) What happened to the two people who stole the car?

I'm hoping there are enough fans who name their children Boy & Girl that it makes grade school pretty interesting 7-10 years down the line.

I watched it, I liked it in the moment, but will probably will never watch it nor think about it ever again.

It also didn't feel like a movie, as parts of it felt like a pilot of a series or something. The whole confusion when it all started reminded me of similar scenes in the Handmaid's Tale.

Your standards are too low now. That movie was terrible. So cliched. No character arcs. Terrible dialogue and writing. Terrible movie.

It wasn't really a "movie" for those reasons. Which is why I view it as a drawn out episode of "Black Mirror" or a lesser "Twilight Zone 2018"

So what was the thing that people were supposedly seeing? Why did seeing it cause them to kill themselves?

I'm gonna come out with a movie where if the alien smells your fart or you smell the alien's fart. You die.

Have no idea, nor any inclination to find out. I edit for my job, so when I watch a show or a film, I want the makers to tell me the story, not the other way around.

It was good enough for me until the lame climax. I can't be afraid of wind. Reminded me of M. Night. Shyamalan's The Happening.

I give the movie a 7. The switch from then to now was interesting. I was disappointed with the monster visuals. I suppose they looked like the drawings by the Tom Hollander character.

When Malorie said one child would have to look at the rapids so she could navigate them and she would say which child, brought to mind the movie Shoot Out with Gregory Peck. A choice of which child would put a tea cup on their head so a villain could shoot it off.

One child his daughter the other the son a woman who gave him shelter from the rain. The woman was given the choice to choose she chose his daughter. I thought Malorie was going to choose the child that wasn't hers.

Could have done more with the ending. It was kinda whack.

All in all I don't think it will win any awards but it's worth a watch.

Enjoyed the flashbacks

I say first 75% great movie. Last 25% felt rushed and anticlimactic

Yeah, that was a lame story-telling cop out. They needed a clever way to show the characters seeing the demons present without blowing the conceit. But really makes no sense. If you can see where the demons are, but can't see the demons, then where is the danger?

Not really a hard problem to solve though if you make it clear that you need to actually make eye contact with the demons for them take over your soul.

So was she just going to sacrifice one of the children knowingly for her own gain? How would that have even worked if the child would have immediately gone crazy and been unable to give directions? And she was able to navigate without even seeing anyway, so why not just do that in the first place?

Now that I'm thinking of it. There were other problems too.
The cop and Machine Gun Kelly. They jack the car and you never see them again. Maybe they'll get a spinoff down the road.
Also, the rules seemed a little shallow and inconsistent. Crazy people don't kill themselves. Why? Ummmm ... cause they're crazy.
And some crazy people can hide their crazy eyes and crazy behavior. Because... the plot needs them to.

But all things considered. I enjoyed the movie up till the climax.

It's one of those shows that's a house of cards. Once you pull on that weak card, the whole thing collapses.

The bolded part didn't really bump for me because they were clearly impulsive fools, so what happened to them when they stole the car was predictable - they did something else foolish and perished. Also, from a storytelling standpoint, it's all about Mallory's story, so you really aren't ever going to see something she doesn't experience or hear about.
