13th offense
8th defense
Soon to be top ten in both categories... I hope !
And if I read the Luke Walton thread correctly, that is in spite of having the worst coach in the NBA ! So as soon as we hire a coaching genius like Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy, we should be very good !!!! |

The free throws are really keeping this team down right now. They simply can’t keep being this bad right? |

That's insane...
So to prevent people saying I have blind love for Walton, I think this one is in part on him, from what I read from people who know basketball and especially shooting a lot more than I do, there are some things who could be corrected by changing bad habits some of our young players have (I'm looking at you Brandon and Lonzo), but it seems like the coaching staff doesn't care (or is unaware of these kind of problems). At some point if you keep make them practicing free throws and there's no improvement, you have to try something else. Is there someone in the coaching staff who is dedicated to this kind of stuff ? |

The good thing about the free throws is they get a lot more attempts than their opponents and it seems to increase even more late in games. If teams can't get to the line, the Lakers win that battle even when they shoot a low percentage. |

This season, through 27 games, the Lakers have been one of the best clutch teams in the league. In games that are within 5 points or fewer in the last 5 minutes of games, the Lakers have the 4th most wins (10) and the 6th best winning percentage (.588 at 10-7 overall) — including going 6-2 in these games over their last 15 contests.
If these numbers don’t pop to you, here is a sampling of other stats the Lakers are boasting during the season in games the NBA defines as clutch (within 5 points in the final 5 minutes of the game):
Plus/Minus: +24, 3rd in the NBA
Offensive Efficiency: 124.5, 2nd in the NBA
Defensive Efficiency: 100.9, 10th in the NBA
Net Rating: +23.7, 3rd in the NBA
Assist to Turnover Ratio: 2.78, 2nd in the NBA
Turnover Rate: 8.2%, 5th in the NBA
Offensive Rebounding Percentage: 47.5%, 1st in the NBA
3-point FG%: 47.3%, 2nd in the NBA
Free Throw Rate: .613, 6th in the NBA
Opponents FT Rate: .326, 7th in the NBA
Opponents FG%: 40.2%, 7th in the NBA
Simply put, the Lakers have been ramping up their offense to insane levels in games that are close late. They’re hitting nearly half their 3-pointers, rarely turning the ball over, getting to the FT line a ton, and when they do miss shots they’re turning every rebound into, basically, a 50/50 ball (shout-out to Tyson Chandler and his tip backs). Defensively they’re not quite at the same level they are on offense, but they’re doing two very important things really well: they’re not fouling and they’re forcing misses.

Contrary to popular belief, LBJ's teams have almost always been remarkably good in the clutch. Look at last season's Cavs, who finished 50-32 but had an expected record (based on point differential/SRS) of 43-39. And then, of course, they made the finals, winning two game sevens and sweeping a 59-23 Raptors team in the process. |

So where do the Pelicans rank in these categories... and if we are so good in so many key areas... why should we trade the core for AD before we even sign the 2nd elite agent? |

Get LeBron, one of the best drive and dish players of all time and surround him with a team of players unable to hit wide-open shots (let alone guarded ones)? I can't believe we have as many wins as we do. Speaks to his greatness more than anything. |

Thanks for the link. Just read that guy's timeline. We obviously aren't gonna hire a shooting coach by the end of the year. And that guy is gonna lose it. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Quote: | The Lakers rank 2nd in the NBA in defensive efficiency since LeBron/Rondo went out on Dec. 25, but just 28th in offense. They’re 3-5 overall without that pair, but 3-2 when Kuzma plays the full game (Kuz missed the 2nd half vs. OKC, whole game vs. NYK and at MIN). |
