LeBronzo Triple-Doubles… LeBron and Lonzo both finished with triple-doubles tonight. Last time two Lakers had triple-doubles in the same game, it was Kareem and Magic in 1982. First time it’s happened in the NBA since 2007 with Vince Carter and Jason Kidd, apparently.

“Elite company,” LeBron said.

The Lakers turned defense into offense early on, winning the break 18-7 in the first half. To open the second half, they knocked down a series of threes and extended the lead to 15, forcing a quick timeout. The lead extended to 24 midway through the third. Three minutes later it was at 32.

They won the third quarter 40-17. A soul-crushing quarter that took the spirit from the Hornets, who played last night.

Both Lonzo and LeBron were too much for the Hornets to handle. Lonzo added 5 steals to his line and Kemba Walker was held to 4 points.

The Lakers cruised to the 128-100 impressive road win.

LeBron -- -- After the last game, his FT shooting dropped to 68.9 percent on the season. He started off the game well, then missed 3-4 to end the first half and was annoyed with himself. He’d finish the half with 17 points, 7 boards and 5 assists. Triple-double pace. He’d get it before the third quarter was over. Just a very controlled game. I love seeing him come off those high screens, spin on a big and score a layup or get to the line. Just a tough play to defend when he gets some speed into the paint. The Stats: He scored 24 points on 7-15 shooting (2-6 from three, 8-12 from the line) to go with 12 boards, 11 assists, 1 steal, 3 turnovers and no fouls in 30 minutes. He was a +31. The Action: He attacked in transition, spun and scored a layup. He attacked across the paint and drew FTs, he made both. He took the outlet and quickly lobbed to McGee for the dunk. He missed a three. He coughed the ball up on the perimeter. He attacked, spun and the dunk rattled out as he was expecting a pushing foul and FTs. His post entry was picked off. He swished a three behind a screen. He brought the ball up court and sank the 29-footer. He missed a wing three set shot next time down. He grabbed an offensive board and threaded a bounce pass to a cutting Kuzma for the slam. He attacked down the lane and drew FTs, he made both. He attacked, spun and was fouled, he made one FT. He dunked when Hart found him in transition. He was fouled as he backed his man down, he made both. He drew a triple team in the post and kicked to KCP for a three. He fired a pass across court to KCP for another three. He attacked, took lots of contact and couldn’t finish. He attacked off the high screen, spun and drew FTs, he missed both. Second Half: He missed a deep three. He found Lonzo for a couple of threes. He scored a layup on the break when Lonzo stole the ball and found him trailing. He threw a pass out of bounds. He attacked the paint and took out a defender getting fouled, he made one FT. He lobbed to Chandler on the break. He attacked with speed off the high screen for a layup. He hit Stephenson on the break for a three. He attacked off the high screen, spun and scored the layup. He airballed a step-back three. He missed an 18-footer. Bounce pass to KCP in transition for an And-1.

Ball -- -- Wow. Ridiculous stats tonight. Lonzo needs to watch this tape again. He brought it on both ends. Strong start as he was actively finding teammates and being a threat on offense. He was also in on steals and blocks defensively. The aggressiveness helped the Lakers out to an early lead. Lakers are third in the league in deflections per game in part because of him. He had those active hands tonight (seems like he should be averaging more than 1.2 steals per game). He finished the game with 5 steals and 1 block. He’d stroke some three balls in the third to help get the team off to a great start in the second half. He’d get his triple-double early in the fourth on an offensive tip-in. When he plays like this, the Lakers are a tough, tough team. Dangerous. Did anyone notice Kemba on the court tonight? Great job fighting over screens and recovering (and some good position D by our bigs, as well). The Stats: He scored 16 points on 7-11 shooting (2-4 from three) to go with 10 boards (3 offensive), 10 assists, 5 steals, 1 block, 2 turnovers and 1 foul in 35 minutes. He was a +34.The Action: Off the mark on a lob pass to start the game, turnover. Interior feed to McGee next time down for a dunk. Another interior feed next time down as he cut across the lane and found McGee behind him for the layup. He picked a big bringing the ball up court and took it for a dunk. He pushed it up court, hit LeBron, who lobbed to McGee for a dunk. He missed a three on a kickout. He got middle and lobbed to McGee for the score. He scooped up a loose ball, pushed it out with speed, bumped a defender and scored the layup. He attacked a couple defenders and kicked to Kuzma for three. He blocked a drive rotating over and jumping straight up, then he quickly outlet to KCP for the dunk. He traveled on a kickout. He attacked off the three line and was rejected. He dunked in transition shortly later. Second Half: He sank a corner three on a kickout. He stripped the ball off his man, should have been Laker ball but a bad call robbed him of the steal. He sank a wing three on a kickout. He crossed over, split the defenders and threw down a huge dunk over the help defender. He swiped a kickout, pushed it out and fed to LeBron for the layup. He missed a reverse on an off-ball cut. He missed a corner three set up for him out of a timeout. Swing pass to Hart for a three. He hit Svi for a three. He tapped in an offensive board for the triple-double.

Kuzma -- -- He wasn’t quite on track tonight. Seemed like he was a little uncomfortable offensively. Defensively, the Monk vs. Kuzma matchup didn’t go well in the second quarter as Monk scored 10 points in the first half. He had 8 points on 3-8 shooting in the first half. He’s averaging 24.8 points per game in December and would finish with just 14 tonight in the blowout. He was also too sloppy, not holding passes cleanly. It didn’t matter. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 4-9 shooting (2-5 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 3 assists, 1 block, 4 turnovers and 4 fouls in 28 minutes. He was a +29. The Action: He was blocked on a forced three. He rejected his man from behind. He attacked baseline and airballed the finish. He drained a three on a kickout from Lonzo. He cut and LeBron hit him with the bounce pass for the monster slam. He missed a wing three. He airballed a corner three, score the other way. He posted up and bricked a jumphook. He scored an And-1 layup when defenders didn’t match up well in transition, he made the FT. He was called for an offensive foul out of a timeout trying to seal his man in the post. Second Half: He couldn’t hold a pass in transition. He made a tech FT. He got a nice bounce on a wing three to fall. He attacked the paint and fed McGee for the slam. He curled into the paint and lobbed to McGee for a dunk. He was fouled on a cut to the rim, he made both FTs. He lowered his shoulder on iso, offensive foul.

McGee -- -- He was sick and questionable for the game. The Lakers need their anchor. They are fourth in the league in blocks per game, and he leads the team with 3.6 per 36 minutes and got 3 tonight in half that time. He looked good out of the gates with track down blocks and some early points. His first stint of the game had him with 8 points off a series of lobs and interior feeds from Lonzo and LeBron. He had 13 points on 6-7 shooting in the half. He end up with a huge scoring night. Very similar to the kind of game we saw with him early in the season when it was one lob after another from teammates. The Stats: He scored 19 points on 9-10 shooting (1-2 from the line) to go with 6 boards, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 18 minutes. He was a +18. The Action: He dunked off the interior feed from Lonzo. He scored a layup on another interior feed from Lonzo next time down. He dunked off the lob from LeBron in transition. He finished the lob from Lonzo. He missed a hook in the post. He threw down a lob dunk a few seconds later. He crashed the glass and put back in a missed jumper. He was fouled on a lob attempt for FTs, he made one. He had the ball stripped off him after trying to bring down a lob attempt in a crowd. He trailed in transition D and blocked his man from behind, it led to a Lonzo dunk the other way. Second Half: He threw in a layup over his head. He let his man tip in a miss from behind. He tapped out a missed FT and Kuzma found him shortly later for a dunk. He spiked a drive to help get a stop. He dunked off the lob from Kuzma.

Hart -- -- He’s shooting 39.7 percent on threes on 6.4 attempts per 36 minutes (he was at 43 percent for December). He’d make just 1-4 tonight. He’d get his other points on a layup in transition. His best play of the night might have been a hustle play where he went into the first row to save a fumbled pass, then recover on the court to tap out an offensive board. The Stats: He scored 5 points on 2-8 shooting (1-4 from three, 0-1 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 26 minutes. He was a +30. The Action: He attacked the rim and was denied, he and another Laker thought it was an obvious foul. He attacked and short-armed what looked like a half-floater, half-jumper from the elbow. He let a man fly by and missed the sideline three. He attacked and was stripped. He got a stop on an illegal screen, going over the top. He was called for a charge in transition. Cross-court feed in transition to LeBron for a dunk. He fumbled a pass away on the break. He missed a wing three. Second Half: He missed a corner three. Out on the break he scored an And-1 layup, he missed the FT. He saved a ball inbounds, going over the first row of the seats, hustled back on court and tapped out an offensive board. He sank a corner three on a swing pass.

Chandler -- -- Relatively quiet night from Chandler as he went about his business setting screens, battling on the glass and plugging the paint. The Lakers did a good job setting up their bigs tonight, but that was mostly McGee. His hoop tonight was a lob dunk in transition. The Stats: He scored 3 points on 1-1 shooting (1-2 from the line) to go with 5 boards, 1 block, 1 turnover and 5 fouls in 16 minutes. He was a +9. The Action: He drew FTs on the interior feed from Lance, he made one. He blocked a drive. He saved a score with a strip under the hoop. He let his man tip in a miss from behind him. Second Half: Slow-motion lob from LeBron to him for the dunk. Illegal screen on the perimeter.

Stephenson -- -- Strong first half finding his bigs for easy scores and creating his own offense. In the second half, he played a steady game running the point. But he had the building buzzing in the fourth with a monster throwdown cutting down the lane to take a pass. Love the controlled game. Not iso’ing and ball stopping like crazy, but running the team. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 5-8 shooting (1-3 from three) to go with 6 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 23 minutes. He was a -2. The Action: Interior feed for Chandler to draw FTs. He ran clock, attacked right and muscled in the layup. He pushed out a missed FT at the end of the quarter but couldn’t finish at the buzzer. He knocked a ball loose at midcourt, Lonzo got it back to him and he lobbed to McGee for the dunk. He probed, stopped on a dime and hit the 12-footer. Second Half: He sank a three, then went to the guitar for a tech afterward. He was called for a charge. He smothered his man and then stole the ball in the paint. He missed a wing there. He sank a pull-up 17-footer. Two-man game to set up Zubac for the layup. He missed a sideline three. He threw a lob that Svi came down with, then Svi found Lance cutting and he took off from the circle and hammered a monster dunk (bench off their seats). Lob pass to Svi for the dunk.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- Still here after Ariza went to the Wizards. Slow to start before he sank a couple of corner threes on LeBron kickouts late in the first half. Then it was pretty much garbage time minutes in the second half. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 4-9 shooting (2-4 from three, 1-1 from the line) to go with 2 boards and no fouls in 21 minutes. He was a +7. The Action: He missed a corner three. He drew a clear-out foul on Parker’s drive to get a stop. He missed a corner three. He dunked off the Lonzo block and outlet. He couldn’t finish a layup on the break. He swished a corner three on the LeBron kickout. He swished a three from the other side of the court when LeBron found him next time down. Second Half: Good job changing ends with speed for the And-1 layup off the LeBron bounce pass, he made the FT.

Mykhailiuk -- -- His three shooting was up to 35.3 percent prior to the game on 7 attempts per 36. He was swishing tonight, knocking down three and looking more and more comfortable lately. But he also mixed in some great passing and drives. Very well-rounded offensive game for the rookie. Love that he’s getting comfortable out there. The Stats: He scored 12 points on 4-10 shooting (3-6 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 1 board, 4 assists and 2 fouls in 18 minutes. He was a -3. The Action: He missed a fade from the elbow. Second Half: He attacked from the corner, drew the D and fed Zubac for the layup. He swished a sideline three off a jab-step. He missed a three straight away. He attacked from the wing and fed Zubac for another layup. He sank a three on a kickout. He attacked off the three line and was fouled as he was getting ready to hammer, he made one FT. He swished a rainbow three straight away. He attacked and missed the lefty reverse. He hit Lance cutting down the lane for the monster dunk. He threw down the lob dunk from Lance. He missed a wing three. He missed a tough three trying to beat the shotclock.

Bonga -- -- Some 6 minutes of quality garbage time run for Bonga. He’d score his points on a drive and showed that defensive awareness with a couple of steals. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-3 shooting to go with 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 foul in 6 minutes. He was a -6. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He attacked strong to his left but couldn’t finish over the help D. He attacked from the wing and scored a layup. Nice two-man sequence with Moe to set him up for a layup. He missed a short one.

Zubac -- -- He came in late in the third quarter. Some good moments with Svi finding him for layups. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 3-4 shooting to go with 1 board and no foul in 12 minutes. He was +1. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He scored a layup off the drive and dish from Svi. He rolled to the hoop and Lance found him for the layup. Setup again by Svi on a drive and dish for a layup. He missed a wing jumper.

Wagner -- -- That three ball when he had time to shoot, looked money from the release. Very balanced, great looking shot. He got his other hoop on a two-man sequence with Bonga, showing good hands to catch the pass and finish. The Stats: He scored 5 points on 2-4 shooting (1-2 from three) to go with 3 boards and 1 foul in 7 minutes. He was a -8. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He was blocked on a layup. He sank a wing three on the pick and pop. Good hands on the two-man game with Bonga and he scored a layup. He forced up a wing three an airballed (that’s your pumpfake and go, Moe).

Walton -- -- The Lakers led 14-8, forcing a timeout as they were getting McGee open for lobs and easy finishes… Chandler subbed in out of that timeout for McGee… They forced a timeout after a series of threes and a dunk. They led by 11… Stephenson and KCP in for Ball and Hart out of that… LeBron out for Svi with a minute left up 9… The Lakers led 32-22 after the first quarter…McGee, Stephenson, Svi, KCP, Lonzo lineup. Very small at PF… Lakers up 10 when Hart came in for KCP. Timeout a few seconds later with the lead at 8 with 7:43 left… All starters in… Chandler in for McGee shortly later… Some sloppy play and the lead was trimmed… KCP in for Hart… The Lakers led 57-50 at the half. The Lakers led the fastbreak 18-7 and the boards 29-21… The Laker three ball was dropping to start the third and they forced a timeout, leading by 15… KCP in for Ball, Stephenson in for Kuzma, Lakers up 27 with 4 minutes left… Zubac in with 1:41 left, Lakers up 27… The Lakers led 97-67 heading into the fourth… Zo got his triple-double and sat… Garbage time…

Heh. Yeah, I had a party to get to.

Blowouts help.

(Hopefully, I didn't have too many miscues in there.)

Thanks DB!! Missed most of the game, looks like I missed a doozie of a good one too.

Double Triple Doubles?!!

LBJ no surprise. That's what he does. Good way to answer the critics Zo.

Also good to hear that Svi, Wagner and Bonga all got some NBA minutes in.

Great way to bounce back and put another road win on the books.

And great write-up as always!

Y'know, you might as well have punctuated this review with smiling emoticons, you were clearly in raptures writing it.

What an impressive win. The 3rd quarter was something else. Lonzo gets the game ball, you would think Kemba wasn't even on the floor tonight, Ball didn't just shut him down, he mopped the floor with him.

Hopefully they can bottle this momentum and win the next two. They are more than able to.

Thanks for the writeup, DB.

Sure thing.

I like the Three, Two, One section. Good insights. My favorite part. I like deep dives into different particular aspect (vs. a deep detailed summary of the game).

For the intro/game summary part...the tighter you can make it and the more focus you can put on any drama, turning point, or whatever people are going to take from the game, put that in there. For instance, this game had the two triple-doubles. If this story was archived and someone wants to look at two, three, 10 years from now, what's the big takeaway.
