Even with this crew I could see us winning it all. It helps having the best player in the game, who actually affects the outcome in a positive manner. People keep saying Golden State, but what many fail to realize is that they are always a Steph Curry ankle sprain away. I certainly don’t wish it and I feel we can beat them fully healthy.

The Lakers shouldn't be sitting anywhere...get up and run away with that championship...

5th is nice though...just .5 back of HCA

I would be ecstatic if we can go 3-2 here. My prediction is probably 2-3, hope I am wrong.

This will be the Lakers benchmark if how much really they improved, or just got lucky with the schedule and other west game results. If they manag to win 4 out of this 5, then i can say that they are title contender now.
but they wont be a title contender until they beat GSW twice during the season and the other 2 games give them a run for their money. in addition to doing the same with the other top top 3 teams in the west and same for the top 3 in the east. you're not a title contender based on record alone. you're a title contender when you can actually ...Contend for a title. meaning you have the ability and have shown you have the ability to defeat these top 3 teams in both conferences. because odds are those are the teams you will have to beat to get to the wcf's and win in the finals. assuming you dont flame out in round 1. lol.

yep, but this is the start of those tests. I think if they don't win at least 3 games out of this next 5 game schedule, then they should really start consider trading for the second option to Lebron. If they can't even beat this struggling teams, what more if they face those teams in the upper standings.

I never imagined that we would be above the Rockets but below the Clippers.

I don't think the Clippers will stay long in that position. They will go down eventually.

Meanwhile, the Rockets will stay on the bottom standings, until they found someone who will step up on the role Trevor Ariza left.

Is Ariza really the difference between being the #1 seed and not even making the playoffs?

Look what happened to OKC when Roberson got hurt.

Defense has always and will always be overlooked.

Ariza and Moute gave them perimeter defense and shooting. They didn't really replace the skillset they lost. Melo was supposed to help with shooting but he lost his shot.

Rox were actually an average 3pt shooting team last season that just made up for it with an all-time high 3pt volume and defense. Now they're just a bad 3pt shooting team (we are actually tied with them for 20th) and they don't have anyone who takes pride in defense.

In a conference that's up for grabs, I like the chances of the team that has LeBron.

Aren’t they first in defense right now thought without Roberson?

It has been a while since the Lakers have had a team that can be penciled in for a win against any bad or injured team but this team is there. Not always pretty wins but they win just about every game that they should.

I'm still not sure how the team stacks up against the top teams because they have hardly played against any of them but consistently beating up on the lesser teams guarantees that they'll be in the playoffs to have a chance.

Orlando beat us twice and that hurt. Especially the 2nd game.

Being 5th right now would mean a lot more if the standings weren’t so fluid.

The fact that it is spread out makes it more exciting cause the team knows there is no taking time off, amazing that we are only a game back from taking over the so called invincible team in the standings.

We play the Spurs twice this week. Wednesday and Friday. Hopefully we can get them back.

Feels good to be a winning team again. We're actually building upon .500 ball. Two seasons ago, at 7-5, that was the best mark under Luke pre-Bron era. LOL! But it couldn't last, we then dropped to 10-10, but still optimistic something special may be happening. Then came the cliff.

Now it's for reals. We could lose two in a row, but then roll off a win streak greater than the losing streak. 14-9, not bad at all, when you consider there has been 2-3 games we gave away.

Golden State and Houston have had key people miss games while the Clippers and Lakers have been more fortunate in that area.

Many games left to go, so things are subject to change.

The road games factor seems to be offset by the strength of schedule in december.

Then again we did lose both games to the magic

I think we got prob'emz with those noonday starts, man. I hope there aren't too many more of those. Any team better than the Suns will have a better shot of holding onto the immediate 15 pt lead we spot them.
