Report: Sixers finalizing trade for Jimmy Butler

The Philadelphia 76ers are “finalizing” a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for want-away all-star forward Jimmy Butler, according to multiple reports Saturday afternoon.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski were the first to break the news

Butler requested a trade away from Minnesota late in the offseason, with the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat his preferred destinations, according to reports.

But the Sixers have pulled off the blockbuster.

at first blush it seems like a home run deal for the sixers, and overall they still probably will end up winning the trade assuming Butler re-signs, but it doesn't really fix the sixers shooting/spacing issues

That Celtics - 76er's ECF is gonna be fun to watch. Hopefully after that 7 game dogfight, the 76ers can eek out the series win so we get to watch Embid battle Boogie whilst Boogie is trying to earn his Max contract for 2019. Curry will go bonkers in that series.

The T-Wolves basically got two 11ppg scorers, one guy who has not played and I think a second round pick..

That should be enough to drop the T-Wolves out of playoff contention and elevate the 76rs to being at least even with the Celtics and Raptors after they get some playing time together..

They'll lose to #3 Boston in the first round. Can't see them getting HCA now, unless Wilson Chandler can earn a starting spot and Landry Shamet keeps improving. Those two are the only spot-up shooters besides JJ. Doubt Butler buys in either way, and its even less likely he re-signs.

If Fultz continues to start they'll be lucky to tread water. Oh, and the Muscala Dad vs. Butler dynamic is something to watch out for.

Great trade for Minnesota, even if Butler was planning on returning (which he wasn't). Sixers are working their way back to Hinkie.

Philly could have a superteam now. With a little seasoning and maybe one or two more role players they will be true title contenders.

Plus as danzag said, it sends a star/borderline superstar to the east, so the conferences will become even more balanced.

NBATV is *literally* just repeating over and over Jimmy Butler was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. They have all the talking heads talking, but no one really has anything new to say obviously so they are literally just repeating the same things over and over again. It is absurd lol

Garbage trade by the Wolves. Should have tried to get them to include Fultz.

On paper it looks great for the Sixers, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this trade blew up in their faces by the end of their season.

Is Jimmy going to get along with Embid and Ben? Towns and Wiggins say good luck

This was my first impression of the trade. But I suppose that's what the Wolves deserve for dicking teams around. Apparently, the Heat had a deal nearly done with JRich and Olynyk. But they backed out as they were exchanging medical information. Great opportunistic trade by the Sixers

Guess Jimmy didn't want to be part of the rebuilt Bulls in Minnesota.

I dont see how this makes the sixers that much better compared to Boston or Toronto.

Who is their power forward?

Fultz
Jimmy
Simmons
?
Embiid

their bench consists of Redick and Amir Johnson. Talk about no depth

Very one sided deal for the sixers, and sounds like he may stay there long-term. That's a great deal for them. If Embiid can stay healthy they are scary good.

I think the only way it blows up in their faces is if Butler leaves next summer, but reports say that Butler is already planning on staying in Philly and is trying to work out a long-term contract.

Towns and wiggins are soft as (bleep). Dunno how it will be with embiid or ben simmons but Butler was definitely not the bad guy in minnesota. That team is a bunch of kids not serious about winning, and butler wasn't having any of that.

Embiid and Simmons be fine, Embiid can not only take it, he can dish it too... but Fultz... it's over

Maybe Thibs just didn't want him. I would think the Sixers would be glad to rid themselves of Fultz at this point. Right now, they're forced to play him to try and justify their draft decision but if they gave him up and got Butler in return few would criticize that.

If Butler was right and the young Wolves are soft, why add a flaky guy like Fultz who needs so much hand holding at this point in his career?

Jimmy Butler Was Ready To Start Sitting Indefinitely
NOV 12, 2018 5:03 PM

Jimmy Butler played in Friday's game with the Minnesota Timberwolves against the Sacramento Kings, but he viewed it as a "fork in the road" and was prepared to begin sitting indefinitely if the franchise didn't fulfill his trade request.

The Wolves were informed that Butler would stop playing.

Butler was traded the next day to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported that the Wolves were prepared to trade Butler after last Wednesday's game and began soliciting final offers. The Athletic reported that Butler was almost held out of Friday's game due to traction on a possible trade.

Wonder how Butler could get away with holding the Timberwolves hostage like this?

This has got to be a fineable offense.

How did Butler not get fined for requesting a trade?

Butler seems like such a lockerroom cancer. He did this sort of thing in Chicago too.
