Umami is, in my opinion, a product of the "upscale" burger trend that swept through LA on a wave of brioche buns and artisanal aiolis. The city has finally come around to the acknowledgement that when it comes to burgers it is best to embrace what's greasy and cheesy and unpretentious about them. Fatty, melty, griddle style burgers are coming in waves now and my belly is grateful.
I actually like both upscale burgers and hole in the wall dive burgers (although as a personal taste, I prefer a charbroiled burger to a griddled one). No need to just have one or the other. But brioche buns don’t mesh well with a burger. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Umami is a good burger, it’s on the high side in price for sure, would not go there out of choice as there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good
My favorite all time is a now a goner unfortunately; wolfburger in Pasadena back in the early 2000’s had no equal
Tomatoes, Onions and Pickles are extra? Never had one and looking at those prices I doubt I ever will. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

They also didn't even remember to put in the bacon and egg and the avocado they used was brown and gross. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

burgers just so freaking amazing!
Even the Russian bot is a fan!
What was the point of the bot's post? It didn't even include a link to an ad. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
^Not a big fan of bougie burgers, still prefer the usual cheeseburger w/ grilled onions at In-N-Out or a Teriyaki burger at Habit. When burgers on UberEats and/or DoorDash are creeping into the $16.50-$18.50+ range, it was a surprise to see Umami at a few bucks less considering the hype.
try a Dog Haus hangover burger... it will basically be a way better version of that
but also say no to door dash burgers _________________ (bleep) Kawhi
That makes sense now, those add-ons sure made quite a difference. The burger by itself starts around $13.50 (locally), which is not bad.
By the time it arrives via DoorDash or UberEats, the drop off in quality is a bit too noticeable for me to order Umami delivery again.
What's wrong with Doordash? (I thought it was like a better Grubhub.) The fries were completely soggy when I got them (like not just slightly, completely soft and limp). I didn't think Doordash took so long so to deliver so I assumed the problem was on Umami Burger's end.
Cheese is considered an add-on for $1 for some reason. Bacon was $2, and a fried egg was $1. They forgot everything except the avocado, which was brown and gross and very little in amount.
I complained to Doordash because I was pretty angry and they comped me for the full amount in Doordash credits except driver tip. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
I've never been to Umami Burger so I can't comment but I just watched this vid about Umami/MSG fwiw
it aint all that. so save yourself the trouble. me and the wife heard the hype. and thought lets find out what the hype is all about. its a decent burger, nice and fresh. but it's not very tasty. I didnt say i wanted a salty heart attack burger either. I'm just saying the burgers are not all that tasty. I need my burger to be flavorful. Even if it's a healthier burger. or, dont make burgers and go with salads or something.

There's only one kind of burger thats worth 16 bucks +. and thats one made with KOBE beef. which is very hard to come by since most places dont have kobe beef to make you a burger from that type of beef.
I think that kobe burger was like 20 and change. Well worth it. well, well worth it. outstanding taste and no feeling of "why did i just eat all that beef" afterwards. But you have to go to Boise to get one. Or actually Vegas. I forgot which restaurant sells kobe there too.
I went to the one in Costa Mesa back in high school, never went back since. I didn't think it was anything special, personally. I'm pretty sure it was around $11 though which was reasonable.
Umami has some tasty burgers but it's not worth the price (~$25+ for burger, fries, drink w/ tax and tip). I can get a better burger for half the price at many different places. Their fries aren't that great either, even the truffle fries are just ok. I put them on par with The Counter for tasty but overpriced burgers
Some great burger joints I really love that is worth the price
