As announced a few months ago, Conan will no longer air as an hour long traditional talk show. Last night (Oct 4) was the last show under the old format. The show will be on hiatus until January. When he returns, it'll be a 30 minute show with fewer guests, no band, and more remotes.

I'm really sad about this. I've been a fan since 1993. I stayed up until 1:30am throughout high school just to watch Conan, which was one of the reasons I struggled in high school. The great characters, Andy, the great remote segments, the short Tonight Show period, the TBS period. It's been a great show. I'll miss it, but I'm hopeful the new format will be entertaining.

I was expecting a reboot of the film franchise.

I don't watch the show as I rarely watch the late night variety shows. This does not mean that I don't appreciate his talent, as I watch many clips of him and his show--as well as other hosts.

It is truly a great time for late night shows as we have some many talented hosts: Conan, Colbert, Kimmel, Fallon, Cordan, and all of the weekly shows and hosts. So much talent and just not enough time to watch them all.

I hope they keep the annual Conan at ComicCon segments. Those cold opens are classic.

It is sad but his on-the-road segments are really funny so I'm glad the show will focus on those. I also still love the ones around the office and with his assistant Sona but the Jordan Schlansky ones have gotten stale.

I actually don't enjoy the traditional talk show format with the opening monologues and guest interviews anymore even though Conan is my favorite. I will miss the live bands.

Yeah, the best part about the show will be kept. Regardless where he goes, whether it's another country or just the office, it's always funny and fresh. I hope some guests that Conan really likes - like Bill Burr and Martin Short - will still appear from time to time. But yeah, I guess the old format has gotten stale. The ratings haven't been great either.

My faves were Carl Oldie Olson and Tamari The Ostrich.

And Pimpbot 5000.

It makes me sad to hear that this is happening and I haven't watched Conan's since his first year on TBS. The remotes were usually hilarious but some of the best moments were during the monologue and the bits before the guests would come. Then NBC pulled the Jay Leno screwjob, Max Weinberg and Joel Godard didn't make the move to LA, then Brian McCann left...sad days.

He disappeared once he went to TBS. Not surprised they are cutting back on his show.

Conan is hilarious. I love his wit.

His "In the year 2000" bits were always classic.

I have to agree with you there. Loved that bit.

And I do like how he mainly just lets Bill Burr do his thing and gets out of the way. Kimmel is pretty good with stuff like that, too. Leno was always so terrible with interviews. If you watch old Don Rickles clips from various shows, Leno always screwed that up the most. When you have genius on like that, just get out of the damn way!

Yes. Conan and Bill Burr is a must see tv every time. The chemistry is perfect.

Even though I love Colbert, there was a recent appearance by Bill Burr on his show that was very awkward, and I remember thinking how Colbert ruined the appearance of this awesome guest because of his attitude.

Here's the link to that:

Now compare that to how Conan handles Burr. It's night and day.

I didn't really follow Conan from NBC to TBS... I tried watching for a while when it first debuted, but it just didn't seem as good anymore. Especially once Colbert became the host of the Late Show, I felt like Conan really became the #3 behind him and Kimmel.

What I felt was really lame about the Leno thing is that he only returned to host for another four years and then handed it off to Fallon, someone who I thought was a second-rate talent and would never get one of the big three late night shows. Was four more years really worth that whole controversy?

Conan's show on TBS has been solid, but not as good as "Late Night" on NBC. What's missing is some of the old low brow comedy, skits like the Masturbating Bear, Preparation H Raymond and those weird characters. I wish he would either gain the intellectual rights to that stuff and bring it back, or simply come up with new recurring skits and characters that are zany like the ones he had on NBC.

I think Conan and his writing team were in his prime when they were on NBC. He doesn't have to deal with the censors on cable but I felt like when he was on NBC he was trying to prove he belonged and came out with all these wacky skits and characters.

I don't know what kind of offers he got after the Tonight Show, but I think TBS was a huge mistake for him. It put him on a different footing from all the other late night shows. It's not even a late night show anymore. It airs at 8 or 8:30 here. I'm not even sure. I think they repeat it a couple times throughout the evening. I'm usually watching something else, but when he was on NBC I watched regularly.

I agree, and with TBS airing Conan in prime time (at least where I live), I believe that must have put him at a disadvantage compared to the others. And you didn't even mention Seth Meyers, who I think might be the best of all of them. Or Colbert. Or Kimmel. I can't decide.

I think if he wants to boost his ratings maybe he should get back to the stuff that proved that he belonged.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

Doesn't get much better than this Norm appearance.

I can't argue with that.

Here's my favorite Harland clip:
