We are less than a week away from the first NCAA Football games of the 2018 season, and less than 2 weeks away from a full slate of big time college football games. The preseason polls are out, and it appears that Alabama and Clemson are again projected to be at the the top, with some usual suspects expected to contend for the college football playoff including Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Washington.

As of today, all of our teams have a chance to walk off of the field at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on January 7, 2019 as champions!

I’m not coaching this year so I might get to watch some college ball, unlike the past dozen years or so.

My team (West Virginia #17 AP / #20 Coaches) are being criminally underrated if they can play average defense this season.....if not, they might actually be overrated. I am hopeful our defense will improve up front with some grad transfers on the defensive line from USC and Clemson, but depth may be an issue on defense.

I have no worries about our offense (except injuries)......we should literally light the scoreboard up this season. We have one of out stronger O lines in our recent history....All American level receivers....a pack of stud running backs....and the best damn quarterback in college football returning.

Our schedule sets up for a rise in the polls then a potential fall. Open at a neutral field against Tennessee, then Youngstown @ home....then travel for a tough game @ NC State. Open up conference with 5 very winnable games (probably the least talented 5 teams in the Big 12).....then the gauntlet starts to close out the season....

@ #23 Texas
vs. #16 TCU
@ Oklahoma State
vs. #7 Oklahoma

and if we are very fortunate, Big #12 Championship game against likely TCU or Oklahoma!

Any interest in a Yahoo fantasy NCAAF league? Thinking of starting one for any LG members who may be interested. I've always wanted to try. I know the season starts shortly though.

He is, and he's been a great unifying force in Huskerland. I can't remember the last time there was this much excitement going into a season. I think maybe Suh's senior season was close, but nothing like this. I still think Frost is probably 2 years away from being true contenders in the BigTen, I think he is going to make people realize this season that the Huskers are going to be players again.

It will come down to recruiting in my opinion. His success will depend on if he can go out and get those 5 Star kids that use to line up for Tom Osborne. It will not be easy....it is a different time, and Nebraska will not be "bigger" than Ohio State and Michigan in the Big10 until they can have decades of success. The Big10 fans have not seen the traditional powerhouse that Nebraska was known as up close.....they have just mostly seen the average to bad version. Gotta give him some time to truly be a conference champion contender...it will take a few years.....but i am rooting for him.

honestly never even heard of it....does it work like NFL fantasy? if so, seems like there would be just too many players with extremely uneven competition.

-- Alabama's depth chart released has Huts & Tagovailoa as co-starters....sorry Nick, that is not possible.....one will run on the field on the opening drive and play QB while the other will not.

-- Kelly Bryant holds off #1 prospect Trevor Lawrence as Clemson's starting QB....for now.

-- Deondre Francois retakes starting QB position from Blackman @ FSU.

-- Feleipe Franks retains starting QB position @ Florida.

It's official: NCAA record books acknowledge UCF's title

Quote:
Central Florida’s claim to the 2017 National Championship is officially in the record books. With the NCAA putting out its annual list of records, both individual and team, for the 2018 season, the section on national champions acknowledges the Colley Matrix’s choice of UCF as the season’s title-winners.

It is here...kind of...

Defending "National Champions" (see above) the Golden Knights of UCF travel to East Hartford tonight to take of the UConn Huskies!

Also tonight, Northwestern vs. Purdue should be a sneaky good matchup...and Texas A&M, Utah, Minnesota and Oklahoma State all open their season tonight. Tomorrow, Michigan State, Syracuse, Duke, Wisconsin, Stanford and Colorado get rolling.....and then on Saturday all hell breaks loose:

(Some of the better anticipated games)
Tennessee vs. West Virginia (@ BOA Stadium in Charlotte, NC)
Oregon State vs. Ohio State
FAU vs. Oklahoma (sneaky must watch)
Texas vs. Maryland (@ FedEx Field in Landover, MD)
Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech (@NRG Stadium in Houston, TX)
Washington vs. Auburn (big time game @ Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA)
North Carolina vs. Cal
Cincinnati vs. UCLA
Michigan vs. Notre Dame (huge game)
Louisville vs. Alabama (@ Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL)
BYU vs. Arizona

then a Sunday hangover game

Miami vs. LSU (@ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX)

and even a Labor Day special

Virginia Tech vs. Florida State

not sure if anyone saw the opening kickoff of the UCF game....but there was a scary injury to UCF defensive back Aaron Robinson colliding head-first with another UCF player while making the tackle. They had to cut his pads off on the field....and carted him off strapped on a board.

Appears to be good news....

Quote:
UCF coach Josh Heupel said Robinson is expected to be fine, but will be kept overnight at a local hospital for observation.

So have you got Wheeling Jesuit on the schedule this year? Or did you actually roll the dice and schedule a ranked opponent?

Ranked opponents know better than to schedule teams like UCF. Look at Iowa losing to N Dakota State and now no contender will gamble on putting them on their schedule.

UCF is ranked.... .........but it is more of an inside joke.....each year WVU Basketball plays an exhibition game against one of the smaller college teams in the state in late November or early December.....it does not count in any way on their record. This year they have Alderson Broaddus University scheduled....but a couple years ago if I recall correctly, ESPN listed the game that year, which was against Wheeling Jesuit University (the proud alma mater of John Beilein), as a regular game on the schedule.....hence the suggestion that WVU (or I guess any team I support) has weak schedules.
