I broke it down like this in the FA thread way back, but here you go.

Estimated Timeline:

Quote:
After either type of Achilles tendon tear surgery, you will likely wear a cast or walking boot, for 6 to 12 weeks. At first, the cast or boot will keep your toes pointed downward as the tendon heals from the Achilles tendon rupture surgery.

It is then gradually adjusted until your foot is in a neutral position. This will require you to be non-weight bearing, which means you have to stay off of the leg and not walk on it.

Your doctor will advise how long you will be non-weight bearing depending upon various factors. During your non-weight bearing period, it’s essential that you do not put any weight on your injured foot.

http://iwalk-free.com/injury-resource-center/achilles-tendon-rupture/

Quote:
Once the cast is removed, the initial therapy is passive exercises to regain mobility in the ankle joint. After several weeks, more strenuous resistance exercises are incorporated. This is then followed by gait training exercises after about two to three months following the initial treatment. Return to routine activities usually occurs at four to six months. The recovery phase is dependent on the patient's motivation, desired activity levels, and the quality of the physical therapy program.

6 months from January(Cousins injury): July

NBA pre-season start: September 30th.

Estimated Workout Period: July, August, September

That's 3 months time to workout and take part in training camp for Cousins.

The NBA season Ends June 17th at latest this season

Essentially via the timeline, Cousins will miss the first month of the off-season, and be back to physical activity 3 months before the season begins.

Comparison to Kobe's injury/timeline:

Kobe's injury happened April 12th

Kobe returned from that injury to play professional basketball again December 9th

May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December

That was a 8 month area, that is including the period of time he was in the walking boot.

Why did I black out September? Because September was the month where Kobe was a few weeks away from running full boar at full speed and with no setbacks and ready to establish true basketball activities. That was at the 5 month mark.

DeMarcus Cousins got hurt in January

February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September

Note: Kobe was doing physical activities months before he returned in December. He was just back to ready to play NBA basketball by December. That is why I marked September. Same time period for Cousins would be June, just at the end of the NBA season where he'd be a few weeks away from running full boar and partaking in physical activities..

So essentially 4-6 months.. just like was said about the usual recovery period.

So let's use this same period of time with Cousins, that means he'd be at the same point of playing "NBA basketball" by September, which it would be the entire month before "pre-season" were to begin. He'll have been able to go into working out again in June'ish and July at latest which is a full few months before pre-season comes into fruition.

So what you're looking at right now is if we look at that time period, Cousins at worst wouldn't play the first few pre-season games not because he wasn't able to participate in practice, but to get him completely ready.

He WOULD however be ready likely near the end of pre-season and would/should definitely be ready by the season opener.

The benefit of breaking it down this way, is seeing that Kobe's recovery wasn't an "anomaly" in terms of the time it takes to recover, it was around the standard.

So if we hold Cousins to the standard recovery time, he should be ready to go by the start of the season barring any setbacks. Anything longer, barring any setbacks, would just be the team he's with being cautious and careful and probably getting him in more practices.

Cousins made it clear a few years ago he wanted LA....this doesnt suprirse me at all...from what I have been seeing and hearing....it could happen...

This article was from last february...but goes to show you hes always wanted Lakers and he may be willing to give discount if JAMES and/or George come....

Quote:

“Jarinn Akana and Dan Fegan, who represent Cousins, they did their job here, which was to — and this also complicated what they could get in a trade — Jarinn came out publicly last night and privately they told teams, ‘If you trade for Cousins, we’re telling you, he may not stay. He may nor re-sign with you. The Lakers are going to have a lot of cap space again potentially in a couple years. He could go to L.A. as a free agent. He might not stay in New Orleans or he might not stay in Phoenix or anywhere else...’

Thanks for the info, I am still tentative of Boogie though this is one of the hardest injuries to comeback from in any sport

Lakers did the Achilles thing with their franchise icon who had work ethic like no other. Was ugly.

Not interested in a replay with a malcontent center built like a bowling ball

Sacramento has already had the Cousins Experience.

Atlanta got rid of Dwight a year ago and they will be be hesitant about bringing in another center that could disrupt the locker room.

Chicago moved out the drama crew of the past (Thibodeau, Noah, Butler and Rose). I would expect them to prefer quiet for a while.

A center like Capela or DJ fits the needs of Dallas better than Cousins does.

Philadelphia has Embiid and no need for Cousins.

The teams above have some cap space to work with, but have no strong need/desire for Cousins.

Despite Cousins coming off a Achilles injury, he is still the superior center compared to Lopez... so I am fine getting him as long as it’s not Mozgov type money.

I'm down.
Renounce Julius.
Then have Cousins come over on a 1 year deal at $10M.
Cuz Cousins loves the Lakers and it's a prove it year for him.
He re-signs next year for his max.

Who's with me?

2 year deal no brainer. Lakers will need a bad ass like this. Confident he’ll fall in line with a leader like LeBron. Wouldn’t have had a chance to afford him without the injury. Got to take advantge.
