So here's a place to discuss the success/failures of your favorite non-DLO players like Okafor, Towns (mine), Mudiay, Stanley Johnson, etc.

As of today:

Okafor: 26ppg
Mudiay: 17ppg
Devin Booker: 14ppg
KAT: 14ppg
Krispy: 13ppg
Hezonja: 11ppg

Discuss.

Finally watched a bit of the Knicks. Krispy is an intriguing player. Over here, people are having the same conversations about Kobe vs. DLO/young core shot distribution and Melo vs. Krispy/young core shot distribution too.

Okafor had a great debut, I can see him continuing it throughout the season.

Yeah, Oak will likely win ROY. 76ers don't care about winning and they will dump him the ball. Plus, he has Noel protecting him defensively, something Randle could not do.

Mudiay will put up some good numbers in the free flowing offense as well.

KAT will also be a double double machine.

DLO will certainly have less opportunities but that's ok. It's a marathon.

It only took size to expose Okafor. 10 pts on 4-12 shooting against the Jazz.

Watched the first half and some of the 4th. Yeah, don't have the luxury of being guarded by David Lee every night. Utah didn't even guard him with Gobert, to put it into perspective. Favors checked Oak, and did a very nice job on him. I think Oak's going to be just fine, but my concern if I were his coach would be the little things he didn't do. Didn't fight that hard for position, set extremely lazy picks, didn't board for you and played pretty shoddy defense. We know he's a willing passer but I didn't see him create much of anything for others tonight. Only passed when he got in trouble.

Okafor is playing with total scrubs... Utah doubles him every time and he is kicking it out for bricks... his teammates are not even capable of driving and drawing for the dish... it's going to be harder for Okafor to score with defense focused on just stopping him.

he did school Gobert twice in the fourth, draw 2 fouls on Gobert, the defensive monster.

Okafors +/- was a -35 and he didn't get his 3rd rebound until the 3rd quarter

. Ok. But I didn't hear the "scrub" argument when he went 26/9. I think it had something to do with David Lee/zeller guarding him?

Actually Sullinger was guarding him for a lot of that game too. All 6' 9" of him.

LOL at this thread. If you like empty points and no rebounds, the midget version of Al Jefferson in Oakafor is your man. The only real deal so far is Karl Anthony Towns. The pundits got that one right. He's showing why he's #1. His box score tonight is damn good.

So is this a bash thread, a thread for protecting Russell, or a thread for bashing Russell?

Can't we just talk about other players without hidden agendas? If not, fine. At least keep it out of the Russell thread in the lounge.

Can we make this a subforum, like the Lin-subforum on hornetsplanet?

Okafor played fine tonight. Favors guarded him for the most part, and when he got it in the post, he was usually doubled. He had issues putting a body on someone early and was bad on the defensive boards. Looks like someone got into his ear and he did better as the game went on. He hit a 15 footer and missed 2 other jumpshots. One of which he had to shoot because of the clock.

He had a few good sequences where he was doubled and kick it out and re posted. At times he rushed his shot, because he knew a double was coming. He handled the double much better today, so that was an improvement.

Defensively, he was lost on team defense. He played solid defense on Favors. Favors did most of his damage in the 3rd when Okafor was out of the game.

Still needs to work on his motor. That and conditioning are his biggest weaknesses. Even the last game I wasn't impressed with his motor. As that improves, his defense and rebounding will improve as well.

It looks like they want to mix up where he gets his touches. He is blessed to be on a team that isn't fooling themselves.

Honestly, just wanted to take those conversations out of the DLO thread to the proper forum.

Yeah, thanks for making this thread. It was needed. I just hope some, on either side of the fence, don't ruin it.

And let people come to the realization that maybe DLO, Oak, KAT, Mudiay, et. al. can all do well. Progress isn't mutually exclusive.

You probably can't make an honest assessment of these guys until at least the year is out....in the long term probably 2-3 years down the road when these guys get a better feel for the NBA game.
