LA Lakers Rumors: Team Could Trade Three For Big Man And Are Also Looking At Andrea BargnanI

(edit)

According to the Sports World Report, the Lakers could free up some salary cap space in the trade for Haywood. That free space would come from trading away Nick Young, Ryan Kelly, and Robert Sacre for the big man from Cleveland.

The Lakers are not the only team interested in Haywood, though, as the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns are also looking at him. Haywood has a contract for $10.5 million that is not guaranteed, and makes him easy trade bait.

Unloading the contracts of Young, Kelly ($1.7 million), and Sacre (league minimum) would free up cap space to go along with the little bit of an exemption the Lakers have remaining. With that, either Haywood could be traded for or Bargnani could be signed.

The rumors swirling around the LA Lakers are plentiful, but they aren’t rushing into any decisions. It’s obvious that another big man acquisition is in their plans and he could be named Andrea Barnani or Brendan Haywood.

NBA News & Rumors: Lakers May Acquire Stretch-Four Andrea Bargnani to Maximize Roy Hibbert Effect

Beefing up their frontline, the Los Angeles Lakers could perhaps roll the dice on former top-pick Andrea Bargnani, who provides outside shooting and floor spacing to any team and can be had at a bargain price.

More than a week into the free-agency period, Bargnani is still available on the market. It's no surprise the former no.1 overall pick can't land an NBA contract up to this point after coming off two horrible seasons in New York. But with several teams looking to add depth to their frontline, the Italian may still suit it up with an NBA team next season.

Makes a lot of sense... another thing is, this enables us to utilize a below average or non shooter at small forward (that could defend).

Report: Kevin Seraphin drawing interest from Wizards, Lakers, Mavericks

Kurt Helin
Jul 12, 2015, 3:30 PM EDT

Kevin Seraphin is a solid NBA backup center who wanted to find a starting job somewhere this summer. I’m sorry Kevin, but it’s not going to work out that way.

He’s solid, but not really starter quality. Last season in Washington he played 15 minutes a night, scored 6.6 points on 51.3 percent shooting, grabbed 3.3 boards and was reliable nightly. He doesn’t have much shooting range, and in the past there have been issues with fouling and turnovers. That was enough to keep teams with starting spots looking elsewhere.

Washington would love to bring him back and have him behind Marcin Gortat in the rotation again. But they are not alone in the mix, reports Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.

Jordan Clarkson Proving That He's the Real Deal for Los Angeles Lakers

By Stephen Babb , Featured Columnist
Jul 12, 2015

One can be forgiven for withholding judgement on Los Angeles Lakers second-year guard Jordan Clarkson, but it would be a mistake to ignore his continued emergence.

Last season's 11.9 points, 3.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 25 minutes per contest qualify as solid first-year production, good enough to earn Clarkson selection to the NBA All-Rookie first team at season's end. As an emerging player on a bad team, the 23-year-old found opportunities and made something of them.

Some, however, fret about that 31.4 percent mark from three-point range or get hung up on that missed layup on Christmas Day. Clarkson's season wasn't perfect, and that sequence epitomized as much. Clarkson recently shared his take on that experience on ThePlayersTribune.com:

Philadelphia 76ers: Okafor-Russell Vegas Summer League Recap

by Jake Hyman 28m ago

While catastrophic news hit the 215 area and Philadelphia 76ers Saturday afternoon when the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey reported that Joel Embiid will likely miss the entirety of the upcoming season, the latter portion of the day brought hope to the organization.

After multiple assumptions and questions were brought up regarding the selection of Jahlil Okafor with the No. 3 pick, every one was answered after his dominating performance against the Los Angeles Lakers despite a 68-60 loss. Believed to be just a security blanket in case Embiid’s injuries persisted, he’s proved to be more than a fall back plan in just four Summer League games so far.

True, but there are conflicting reports as above. I think he'll go to Sac though as there are multiple reports of that. But, DeAndre Jordans move has unsettled the league and many say changed the free agent commitment rules.

Thanks for this btw.

Lakers' D'Angelo Russell is aggressive but turnover-prone against 76ers

By Alex Shultz

July 12, 2015, 4:00 AM

On Day 1 of the NBA summer league in Las Vegas, Lakers rookie D'Angelo Russell faced off against Minnesota's Karl-Anthony Towns, the only player drafted ahead of him. On Day 2, Russell went against Philadelphia's Jahlil Okafor, the third overall pick whom many assumed would end up a Laker.

Jordan Clarkson carries scoring load again for Lakers in summer league

Comparing a point guard's play to that of a center is apples to oranges, but on an individual level, Okafor was more impressive on Saturday. He had 19 points and 11 rebounds while demonstrating a better set of skills defensively than many have come to expect. Russell, meanwhile, had 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Jordan Clarkson carries scoring load again for Lakers in summer league

By Alex Shultz

July 12, 2015, 1:05 AM |Reporting from LAS VEGAS

In the first half, Clarkson drew oohs and aahs from the crowd after an ankle-breaking crossover against JaKarr Sampson that led to a reverse layup. That's been a theme of his offensive repertoire so far, as he's found mismatches and attacked accordingly.

Later in the game, with the 76ers hanging around, Clarkson opted to dribble the ball up court, despite rookie guard D'Angelo Russell having been the primary ball-handler, and eventually knocked down a floater in the lane that clinched the win.

Lakers News: Lou Williams Appreciates L.A. Trying To Be Competitive

Posted by: Corey Hansford Posted date: July 12, 2015

The Los Angeles Lakers finally began to make some noise in this off-season. The Lakers agreed to terms with reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams on a three year, $21 million contract in hopes of boosting their scoring off the bench.

After agreeing to the deal, Williams recently had an interview with Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders and spoke about appreciating how the Lakers are working towards becoming a competitive team again:

"We’ll see the final product once we’re going into training camp. I appreciate the fact that they are making moves and they are trying to become a competitive playoff team again. They’re trying to get back to the winning that they’ve always had. I’m really looking forward to my future there.”

Lakers coach Byron Scott doing well in personal free-agent market

JUL 12, 2015 2:09a ET

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott's company at summer league games has drawn attention.

No, the Los Angeles Lakers haven't done great in free agency.

But maybe their coach, something of a free agent himself, is doing better in the market.

Byron Scott was spotted Friday attending a game being played by the Lakers' entry in the Las Vegas Summer League. Scott, who is single after his divorce in January, sat next to a woman who caught the eye of the online community.

It's a head scratcher for sure, like why would we be going after Bargnani? What does he bring to the team that we don't have already. His last 2 seasons with the Knicks he only shot 30% from 3. He is not even that much of a stretch 4. I'll pass.

The label on the product, Andrea Bargnani, says .. "This real life basketball player is a stretch 4... Made in Italy." But if you call for tech support, the rep will say "he's a stretch 4 and shoots outside shots, but no where on the label do we claim that he makes them. No refunds."

Nance doesn't let Crohn's disease or a torn ACL derail his journey to the Lakers
July 12, 2015 Updated 8:50 p.m.
BY BILL ORAM / STAFF WRITER

Few expected forward Larry Nance Jr. to be drafted in the first round.
ELAINE THOMPSON, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LAS VEGAS – The cheer emerged in the third quarter after Larry Nance Jr. nimbly threw his opponent out of the way, planted two feet, coiled and exploded for a put back dunk over former Arizona point guard T.J. McConnell.

Unexpected and joyous, the reaction spread from one section and soon filled the arena. The chant floated out of Thomas & Mack Center and surged across the country, into a living room in Akron, Ohio.

Watching the Lakers play the Philadelphia 76ers on television, Larry Nance Sr. smiled when he realized summer league fans were chanting, “Larry! Larry! Larry!”

“They never did that for me,” the three-time NBA All-Star said a day later, laughing.
