I'm thinking about moving to Norwalk, but don't know much about the area. Can any of you LG'ers familiar with the area fill me in?

Upper-lower to lower-middle class area. Majority Latino and Asian, scattered and shrinking white population. Bordered by Santa Fe Springs, Downey, Cerritos, La Mirada.

Pros: proximity to 5, 105, 605, 91 freeways. Not quite Downey.

Cons: Might as well be Downey.

My understanding is that Downey and Cerritos are both better areas (in terms of crime) and not really more expensive to live in.

Pure working class city.

There are worse places to live and there are better. Grew up there and used to live on Pioneer blvd near SFS border until 2005. #1 plus to living there is freeway access.

Was relatively safe for me. Although I hear more things in the news these days.

The main area to avoid, the one ways section of Norwalk which is on the opposite end of Pioneer where it meets Alondra blvd.

Poster above mentioned the racial mix, would agree. Asians would mostly be vietnamese and indians.

Overall, Downey, Cerritos, Lakewood, SFS and La Mirada are still better if given a choice.

Bye.

Norwalk, huh? Not bad at all.

Pretty much an urban city, surrounded by urban cities. A mix of a lot of races. If you drive down Bloomfield Ave. from say, imperial Highway to South St., you'll get a good feel for the place and the type of neighborhoods around you. Obviously depends where in Norwalk you plan to move to, though. You won't miss out on how many restaurants and drive thru's are in that area. Overall, a nice place to live and you'll see people out at night quite often, even on weekdays lol.

Pretty ghetto. Cholos everywhere wearing giant baggy shirts and long white socks that go up to their knees.

Got in a car accident there once. It wasn't my fault.

Maybe it would help if you stated where you were moving FROM..

Moving FROM Huntington Beach to Norwalk would not be a very good move, while moving from South Central or Compton to Norwalk would be viewed as a wise move...

Grew up in Norwalk.

I call it "City of Champions". Guess if I'm being serious or sarcastic.

If you can, avoid driving through it.
