Quote:
Toronto Raptors to host ‘Drake Night’ in January

Before the start of the 2013-14 NBA season, the Toronto Raptors officially named Drake a global ambassador. The superstar rapper is sure to have his fingerprints all over Toronto’s 2016 All-Star Weekend festivities, and he’s helping the team with its image redesign that’s set to debut next season.

In the meantime, the Raptors have announced a special “Drake Night” next month at the Air Canada Centre:

The game is against the Brooklyn Nets, a team that used to count Jay Z as a minority owner. There will be a special-edition shirt available that somehow ties the Raptors in with Drake’s OVO brand.

The game will also feature a halftime performance by someone called “Future the Prince,” which is unfortunately not a collaboration between Future and Prince, which would be the greatest thing in the history of music..

With Drake taking a prominent role in the Raptors’ public image, it’s safe to say this won’t be the last of these themed nights.

I wouldn't consider Drake a raper. He's more a R&B singer than rapper.

You do not need talent to make millions of dollars and sustain a long career in your profession and make people think you are smart by staying there. Public follow schlep morons no matter how talentless or talented they are.

Quote:
Metta World Peace: Drake should be new Raptors’ coach

Drake already has a courtside seat, then stands and paces constantly along the sidelines yelling at the referees during Raptors games. His designer clothes cost more than most coaches’ suits.

So why not make Drake the Raptors’ coach?

Laugh if you want, but when TMZ threw this at Metta World Peace in Los Angeles, he thought it could work.

“If he had the right staff, he could do it. Yeah, he should do it. I think he could do it.”

Just to state the obvious, this would be a pair of Bad Idea Jeans. As would letting Metta coach the team, although he said he’d talk to them if the Raptors’ called.

The Raptors fired Dwane Casey as coach Friday, despite him leading them to a franchise-record 59 wins last regular season and being voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Toronto needs to shake things up after being swept by LeBron James and the Cavaliers, the Raptors’ roster will be difficult to change because it is capped out (and nobody is taking Serge Ibaka off their hands), so the coach gets the ax. Reports are GM Masai Ujiri wants former Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer, but around the league most teams expect them to stay in-house and hire Nick Nurse or another assistant.

World Peace is keeping busy, he is a player development coach with the Lakers’ G-League squad the South Bay Lakers, and he has a new autobiography coming out next week (more on that in the coming days). He’s still famous enough to get harassed by TMZ while walking down an L.A. street.

Raptors rename training facility in partnership with Drake (VIDEO)

Drake has been the celebrity face of the Toronto Raptors for the past several years. He has been the global ambassador for the team since 2013, whatever that means.

So a branding move like this made a lot of sense.

On Thursday, the Raptors revealed that its training facility would be named in honor of the rapper from Ontario. As part of their continued branding relationship between Drake and Toronto, the training facility was renamed the OVO Athletic Centre.

OVO is the name of Drake’s label.

This obviously doesn’t change much outside of the fact that it’s cool to see the Raptors continue to get international play through Drake and that the organization has strengthened its local ties by having the rapper involved in its business dealings.
