I remember last time a story like this came out.

"Lakers want BOTH CP3 and Dwight"

Would have had them too, basketball reasons got in the way.

So what would be the lineup?

Farmar
Kobe(10m)
Melo(20m)
LeBron(20m)
Pau(9m)

I don't know how that team would function, but I bet you Phil would bring his ass out of retirement to coach it.

Say what you want about Steven A, the fact is he's a lot more dialed in than any of us about what these players want and where they end up. While at times I get annoyed with him, he is repeatedly correct on where players will end up.

For anybody that says they don't want this to happen.....YOU ARE CRAZY. LEBRON, CARMELO, KOBE, AND POSSIBLY PAU ON THE SAME TEAM???? ooooooh booo hooo....I don't like Lebron.....BULL SH**!!!!!!! There is no such thing as loyalty in sports. I can learn to love Lebron and Carmelo if they are wearing Laker uniforms.

This is why most fans will make terrible GMs. There should be no reason not to want LeBron on the Lakers.

I can't stand Lebron. I feel the media has force feed him down our throats. I would still want him though if he wanted to join the team, because he's a good player. Let's be honest though. That's not happening. Espn knows this since the first time they talked about this. They are just rehashing an old story for hits.

If there's a possibility, then I would never consider something not happening. LeBron is the best in the game, there shouldn't be any reason not to want him on this team.

Personnaly I just don't think that adding proven/aging superstar is the way to build teams. I don't want no super team. Just a well built and balanced team with good mix of young player with potential and established and smart veterans.

Melo, Lebron, Kobe? This is a videogame team.

It won't happen though so I don't even have to worry/care.

If you think that's what Kobe needs to get it done, be it. Just not my opinion.

I don't see it happening...for one Lebron is probably loyal to Riley at this point where he wouldn't feel comfortable leaving Miami for somebody like Jimbo at this point....even if it was the Lakers.

it's a long shot. even if LeBron interested in us, as long as Kobe's on this team, LeBron is not coming. why would LeBron help Kobe to pad his ring total when he's after Kobe's legacy? Melo, i can see it happen with Kobe on the team, but not LeBron.

This. When is Kevin Durant finishing his contract? Why don't we just write a story for that, too, while we're at it. CP3 is signed up for 5 years? Who cares...Write a story for that, too.

I think Shelbourne is a decent writer/reporter, but give me an f'ing break here.

It's the Olympic team.

Add Pau and you have 4 of the Olympic's best.

We need to pass the Celtics in championships. We're really close. Fire Dumbtony and hire Phil to attract LeBron and Carmelo.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Carmelo is worth / will get the Max?

I like him, but 20M per year for a 30 year old on a multi year deal is steep.

If you look at the realistic available FAs in 2014, then giving Carmelo the max might be our only option as far as getting a superstar player in the market.

most of the superstar FAs we want in 2014 are RFAs and will most likely be matched by there current team.

Basically the Lakers are "settling" for a 30-year old Carmelo for the Max?

Would you, rather overpay for Melo or someone like Rudy Gay?

I almost positive if we sign Kobe to a 10-15M deal (likely) we cannot afford Nash/Kobe/Lebron/Melo all at the same time.

i really don't think lebron will come here.. but at the same time.. where else would he go?

Stay? No, they're about to get even more tired, less favorable ref's, and wade/bosh opt in.

Cleveland? No, if lebron is going to gamble on others staying healthy 110% he bets on wade/bosh over Bynum. Also, Gilbert supposedly said lebron is the LAST player he ever allows to enter free agency. Will kyrie resign? i don't think so.

PG - nash
SG - kobe
SF - bron
PF - melo
C - pau
6th - young
bench - farmar, kaman, hill, kelly

not so bad... lol where's the start button?!? 2k15?

But if you really want showtime..

PG- Bron
SG- Kobe
SF- Young
PF- Melo
C- Pau

You are right about limited opportunities in 2014. This is where Lakers need to show a little patience as well as not overpay.

The better targets are in 2015. Pick someone in 2014 who fits the long term play at the right price but maintain flexibility to go after so one like Love/La/Rondo,etc in 2015.
