If the Lakers can get LeBron and Carmelo, then I don't see them having a hard time finding players who will sign for the vet-min.

I don't want Lebron on the Lakers and I don't believe Kobe does either.

What exactly does the lakers have to offer to entice Melo and Lebron other than "hollywood" which isn't such a big deal nowadays. And please don't say they get to play for a great historic franchise because the team is under new ownership, so the lakers are technically starting over and so far their track record has nothing been short of a failure. Maybe Melo but Lebron won't come to LA. If anything, Melo would go to Miami to play with him. Wade/Melo/Lebron and fillers.

This.

I can see Kobe taking a paycut, but he won't take a backseat to LeBron and vice versa. Melo will definitely take a backseat to Kobe though.

I still think Kobe and Melo isn't enough to win a championship. Lebron will still be in Miami, the rockets will make improvements, and OKC will still be around. You also need a competent coach.

By that time, it doesn't matter what Kobe thinks.

If you can get Lebron and/or Melo you do it. Preferably Lebron only.

If he's smart he would take a backseat to Lebron. With Lebron alone we are a title contender, add another superstar and we are the favorites for the next 5 years. Kobe could easily get 3 more rings and end a great career on top. It's blasphemous to not want Lebron on this team.

We should be aiming at Paul George instead. A lot more realistic and a hometown kid to boot.

How do you figure it is easier getting a restricted free agent over an unrestricted free agent?

If Lakers had to chose Lebron or Kobe at that point, who seriously thinks the Lakers will pick a 35-36 yr old?

Exactly, the Lakers always grow their own, like Kareem, Wilkes, Shaq and Wilt.

well sure a lot of teams are going after these two, but Lakers is only one of the few teams that can afford both. i have no doubt LeBron would at least entertain the thought of join team with Melo and finish up his career on one of the biggest stages of the world.

It sounds so far fetched but I think you're on the money. Which teams can offer the market, prestige, and opportunity (salary cap position) to let Melo/LBJ play together.

In that scenario, I have to think Kobe will either retire or take a small salary to stay on the team.
. The thing is though is that neither lebron or melo need the market and prestige. Carmelo already plays for the Knicks. The biggest basketball stage in the nba and his hometown. The Knicks may be old now but both amare and chandlers contracts are up in 2015. They can make a run at any of the great free agents in 2015. As far as lebron goes, he doesn't even need a big market. He is already a 2 time champion and will continue to make a run at goat status. He basically transcends basketball. Players go to the lakers to try and win championships and become icons. Lebron has already done both so he has no use for the lakers. Besides if the lakers pulled this off so many people would be pissed the nba might ban free agency all together.

Far fetched as it may seem, so too was the notion that LBJ/Bosh/Wade would play together.

LA is one of the few teams that can theoretically sign both LBJ/Melo (but would have to probably renounce everyone).

Maybe LBJ/Melo want to play together. Who knows. If you had LBJ/Melo, you could easily put lots of smaller pieces around them with the remaining budget.

Still a .00001% chance. But it's still a chance.

Even if Lebron wanted to play with Melo, Miami would be the city where they play together.

If Lebron wants Melo, Pat Riley will make it happen in Miami.

He will convince Wade to opt out and sign for less, same with Haslem. He will trade or stretch Joel Anthony, and even if Bosh doesn't opt out ( unlikely unless he is hurt), he will easily trade him.

He will find enough cap room to play with Wade-Lebron-Melo+ role players.

It will be easier for Riley than for Mitch and Jim Buss to try put together Kobe ( maybe Gasol), Melo, Lebron .

It would be easy for Riley to convince D-Wade to opt out? Under what pretense - D wade you should take significantly less money than max money so you can win another ring? (No one is going to go from 15 mil to 5 mil)

Plus - what team would want Chris Bosh on a max contract? That makes no sense for anyone.

You can't have 4 superstars with this cap. 3 Was hard enough and only possible because they had so much cap room. There is 0 incentive for D-wade and Bosh to opt out.
