Maybe LBJ/Melo want to play together. Who knows. If you had LBJ/Melo, you could easily put lots of smaller pieces around them with the remaining budget.

Still a .00001% chance. But it's still a chance.

Even if Lebron wanted to play with Melo, Miami would be the city where they play together.

If Lebron wants Melo, Pat Riley will make it happen in Miami.

He will convince Wade to opt out and sign for less, same with Haslem. He will trade or stretch Joel Anthony, and even if Bosh doesn't opt out ( unlikely unless he is hurt), he will easily trade him.

He will find enough cap room to play with Wade-Lebron-Melo+ role players.

It will be easier for Riley than for Mitch and Jim Buss to try put together Kobe ( maybe Gasol), Melo, Lebron .

Good luck with convincing Wade to leave $40m+ on the table, given what he did for the franchise. Further, Bosh will be earning $20m+ if he opts in. Not an easy contract to trade (see Gasol, Pau).

I agree, I think both Wade and Bosh opt in.

^WHEN Wade/Bosh opt in, I think Lebron is out. Would he go back to Clev. and Mike Brown? Maybe. If Melo tells him he wants to have 3-4 year run with him in LA, what does Lebron say?

It's worth the opportunity to get these two guys together.

Another crazy scenario is in 2015, Knicks will have cap space. For LBJ, the timing doesn't work out, but something to keep in mind.

Still LA in 2014 should be in an interesting position to court both.

I honestly doubt Lebron comes to LA. I think he goes to Cleveland and tries to break that curse. Carmelo, I think comes to LA to play with Kobe and in 2015 I can see either Love or Rondo joining him.

Wade will not leave 40 million on the table : he will sign a longer deal for less, something like 60 million for 5 years, which will enable Riley to make the numbers work.

About Bosh, there will be enough teams with cap room ready to get him : he is younger than Gasol, still in his prime, and arguably the third best FA the next season after Lebron and Melo ; if he opts in, he will have only two years remaining on his contract: many teams would take a chance on him . By the way, I still think he will opt out to get a longer deal .

Also , Gasol has not been traded only because the Lakers has asked for too much in return; if they simply wanted to dump him, they could have done it more easily.

Really? You think Wade will take how much of a discount from $20m? He put the Heat on the map. I doubt Riley will screw him like that (if Riley is still around that is).

And Bosh. Don't get me wrong, unlike some people here on LG, I think he's a good player. But not a $20m for the next few years good.

Having so much capspace has its pros and cons.

All that capspace will indeed allow us to go after the biggest unrestricted free agents.

However, with the new CBA, superstars will mostly stick to their original team until they become unrestricted around the age of 28/29. 24 year old superstars will be restricted, and the only way to acquire them is via trade, or sign-and-trade.

And that is exactly why having so much capspace is not as good as people think.

Sure, there are superstars that rely more on skill than athleticism, such as Carmelo Anthony, who should age more gracefully than others, and could do well with a max contract at age 29-33. But if you want to have a superstar in his prime, you're going to need to have valuable assets so that you can sign-and-trade for a restricted free agent superstar.

Without trade assets, you won't be able to convince a team that drafted the superstar to give you their player in a sign-and-trade. So with the new CBA rules, capspace is not the best way to get superstars.

It does allow you to get cheap role players, because the middle class free agents will dissappear. Think of players like Kyle Lowry, for instance. Not an all-star, but solid starting caliber players.

But if, for instance, the lakers want to go after John Wall in 2014, then that's unfortunate, because the lakers have no trade assets for a sign-and-trade (except for an expiring Nash?). If the lakers want to go after Kyrie Irving in 2015, then they would need to pick up players in 2014 on good deals, while not spending too much so as to be under the tax apron in order to be able to receive sign-and-trade players.

In order to get a superstar in his prime, you need to either draft him, or have great trade assets. And both require a great deal of luck.

Two words: Kevin Love (2015)-Age 24

Born: September 7, 1988 (currently 24 yrs old)
Fast forward to July 17, 2015 (he will be 26 years old 10 months 10 days)

And still injury prone.

And has still never even come close to the playoffs.

Hiring Phil Jackson for a front office position dramatically increases the franchises attractiveness to Lebron and or Melo. "Come on Jimmy, PUT YOUR BIG BOY PANTS ON!"

Ok. So let's sign Deng and Granger to max deals then?

OR tank in 2014 when we have no draft picks in 2015?

I'm not the biggest fan of LBJ, but I certainly wouldn't say no to him.

This deal all depends on Melo if he signs first then Lebron will FOLLOW him. Lebron is not going back to the Cavs after what Dan Gilbert said about him and i don't think Dan wants him back. Lebron will have to choose Melo/Kobe or Wade/Bosh on what duo gives him a chance to win a ring.

The dominoes have to drop, and there are a few of them, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities...

Kobe needs to along with pau take a cut, a considerable one, but still within reason for a older star, much as KG and Duncan did, I would hope 10 million, but figure it will be at 15 million. Perhaps 10 million with an understanding he gets that little extra something down the road...

PJAX needs to be in an official status...

The lakers need to win at least 45 this season, showing there are pieces already in place...

Melo is a prime piece, as Bron already said he wants to play with melo more than anyone else....Melo's wife lives in LA during the season, so that is a leg up for us, plus Melo and Kobe are tight... Plus Kobe taking a pay cut is a million words without saying anything to BRON....

Lakers have the LA Media hub on there door step, the incredible Laker history and tradition, the much more ideal place to live in LA over Cleveland, Bynum is a injury waiting to happen, plus Kyrie looks to be more and more a scoring point, and his defense is no where near what a superstar point should be, looks to be full of promise, but as of yet not there with the top points yet......... The Heat will be chasing the Pacers and Bulls, with the nets being another team that can leap frog the Heat this coming season... Wade more than likely will continue to break....

Lot's of hurdles, but we will at least have Bron thinking PnG...

Are you saying that you wont pursue Love in 2015? Kevin Love, the youngest superstar that the Lakers realistically have a shot at in 2015.
