my toshiba satellite laptop doesnt recognize the cd/dvd drive.
I usually have to restart my laptop several times in order for it to recognize any cd or dvd. need help.

Might you have done something to delete the driver? Have you tried reinstalling the driver?

Go to the device manager:
-Right click on "my computer"
- go to "properties"
- go to "hardware"
- go to "device manager"

What does it say here about your drives? Does it recognize that there is something there, but not know how to interoperate with it?

I havent tried it yet but I'm just wondering why would it recognize the drive only after I have restart it several times?

while were at it, is there any reason my dvd player doesnt work anymore? it reads cd's and music fine. but when i put a dvd in, its a no go. i was watching boondock saints and then turned it off and next time i restarted it never played a dvd ever again. i tried like 5 different movies and it just keeps spinning but my dvd player wont even recognize the dvd. cds play just fine. damn sony laptops.

As for the Apple lovers, IBM is most certainly better than any laptop from Macintosh.
