At the 3:42 mark of the 2nd quarter of tonight's game, the Warriors had shot 54%, scored 52 points, and were leading by 6. Clearly, the Lakers needed to play some better defense. And that's what they did. The result was a 33-8 run that spanned halftime, until 7:45 of the 3rd quarter. From the start of the run to the end of the game, Golden State shot just 31%.
As they say, good defense generates good offense. The Lakers exploded for 95 at the end of the 3rd, after which most of the starters rested. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, hitting 10-22, with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. A very good game from Smush Parker, who had 18 points on 6-13 shooting, with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. And Kwame Brown was impressive, achieving a double-double by halftime, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds. He was just beating the opponents bigs up and down the court.
But this game belonged to Lamar Odom, who finally shook the "nearly" label and actually had a triple-double; 15 points on 7 of 10 shots, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. Some more games like that in the playoffs would be very nice.
