LO/Cook for Marion...
Denounce Marion in Summer of 08'
With the new capspace go after ....Brand,JO or Arenas....
Keep KObe hapy, keep Bynum, and get a true all-star to join them....
In essence we would trade LO for Brand/JO/Arenas.....
I would at least hope we would try this if at all possible... |

I'm pretty sure it has been explained in more detail earlier in this thread. If the Lakers denounced Marion, they still wouldn't have enough cap space for a max deal, so they wouldn't get Brand, JO, etc. unless they were willing to take a paycut.
Regardless, I still am, and have been, in favor of trading LO for Marion. The team has nothing to lose at this point. _________________ Jeffs

Yes they do. marion has very little impact when it comes to the playoffs. checking his stats dont mean he's impacting a game to the point where another team has to plan for him. LO impacts the game in the playoffs. and it makes opponents have to change their game plan to try and slow/stop LO. This means a lot in my opinion. |

You are missing a lot:
It is Marion's option in 2008, not the team's. He wouldn't opt out, if he is smarter than DeShawn Stevenson and Bonzi Wells.
Even if he does: the Lakers have about $48MM committed to 2008. Where do you see the max if salary cap is about $55MM-$57MM _________________ Major bullets dodged: DH12 - twice, LMA, Melo - twice, PG-13, DeMar DeRozan. Hit jackpot with DH-12 at the right time |

OK I see...What about cutting guys like Cook and Evans, and what about Kwame? All this and denouncing marion, would this give us a shot at Brand or JO,Arenas while still keeping KObe and Bynum?
Thanks... |

It's a freaking broken record, P&P.
Odom does not force other teams to plan around him in the playoffs. Teams don't plan around stopping him. Even in the last two years, where Odom has had a very favorable matchup over a smaller player, Phoenix has no planned their defense around him. They planned it around Kobe (and for good reason).
Marion has very similar playoff stats to Odom, so I don't see why you claim he has little impact on the playoffs. What Marion also does, however, is give you 20/10 for 80 games. Way better than LO's 60, IMO. _________________ Jeffs

No.
Evans is not in these calculations. Cook, even if he is cut: his $3.5MM is still counted against the cap. Unless he is being picked up from the waivers (unlikely event).
Next year salaries (some of it - estimates as actual figures have not been published).
Kobe - $21.3MM
Marion - $0 (opted out and we have renounced his rights)
Kwame - $0 (UFA and we have renounced his rights)
Radman - $6MM
DFish - $4.4MM (estimate)
Luke - $4.4MM
Cookie - $3.5MM
Mihm - $2.5MM
Bynum - $2.8MM
Sasha - $0 (UFA and we have renounced his rights)
Mo - $0 (UFA and we have renounced his rights)
Crit - $1.4MM
Farmar - $1.1MM
Next year draft pick - $1MM
Totaling $48.4MM (some of the salaries are close estimates).
I hope, it answers all questions you posiibly might have.

I think doug collins said it during a game. LO does not know how to take advantage of Kobe on the court. The dude is lame, but he can rebound real nice and all _________________

Cook would be traded for marion also.
Vlad could be traded with the pick for an expiring contract.

Instead of this ^^^^ wishful thinking, how 'bout trading Cook, Vlade and Kwame for JO , then let him opt out and sign Agent 0 and EB with TD for MLE _________________ Major bullets dodged: DH12 - twice, LMA, Melo - twice, PG-13, DeMar DeRozan. Hit jackpot with DH-12 at the right time |

Where's the wishful thinking ?
Mihm has an opt out which he will use if he is healthy.
Cook would go in the trade Lamar/Marion , as rumored many times.
Vlad plus a first rounder for expiring contracts could be done with a team which needs a gunner ( and has no cap space problems) |
